OUR NARRATIVE

A low, winter sun reveals a different aspect of the theatre of Ostia Antica. Ostia was the ancient port town of Rome.

The theatre, originally constructed in the Augustan period, was expanded to a capacity of 4000 in the late second century. Brick stamps reveal this expansion was probably started by Commodus and finished by his successor Septimius Severus.

The theatre was part of a larger complex including a temple and also an area dubbed “the forum of the corporations”; where you can still see today an astonishing collection of mosaics.

Taken in Ostia December 2017
