OUR NARRATIVE
Hadrians Library in Athens reflects his attempt to establish Athens as the cultural centre of the Roman empire. With its imposing facade and high surrounding walls, it was intended to be impressive and remains so.
Built in 132AD on the slopes of the Acropolis, in its heyday it was the largest library in Athens and also served as the state archive and a school of philosophy.
