OUR NARRATIVE

Clinging to the slopes of Mount Parnassus in central Greece, sometimes shrouded in cloud, Delphi’s history reaches back to Mycenaean and Homeric times. Rededicated in about 800 BC, Delphi then served as a major centre during classical times for the worship of the god Apollo. This continued until the mid to late fourth century AD and was finally closed circa 385AD by decree of Theodosius I.

Here we are looking down the Sacred Way with a view of the Athenian treasury, which dates to circa 500BC.

Home to the Oracle of Delphi, rulers came from all over the Greek and Roman world seeking consultation. The ancient Greeks believed this place to be the very centre of the world.

As well as the sacred aspect of the site, it also features a theatre and stadium; which hosted the second most important games of antiquity after Olympia.
